Tips
Tips for iPhone contact QR codes
First and last name are required
The QR code will not generate until at least first and last name are filled in — Contacts apps require a name to save the record correctly.
How it saves on iPhone
iOS 11+ reads vCard QR codes natively. When scanned with the Camera app, a banner appears saying 'Add to Contacts'. One tap saves all the details without opening any app.
Include country code on phone numbers
Format your number with the country code (e.g. +1 555 123 4567) so the saved contact dials correctly from any country.
Address field saves to Contacts
The address field uses vCard's ADR format — it saves in the contact's address field and can be tapped to open in Maps.
Use the note field for photo reminders
vCard photos make QR codes too dense to scan reliably, so embed a note instead (e.g. "Profile photo available at example.com/photo.jpg"). The note saves in Contacts.
Set error correction to High or Max
For business cards that may get worn or creased, higher error correction ensures the QR code stays scannable even when lightly damaged.
FAQ
iPhone contact QR code questions
Yes. Android phones also support vCard QR codes natively through the built-in camera. The contact saves directly to Google Contacts or the default contacts app.
Any field you fill in — first name, last name, company, job title, phone, email, website, and address — all save to the new contact record. Empty fields are simply omitted.
No. Embedding a photo in the QR code would make it too complex to scan reliably. Use the optional Note field to mention where a photo can be found, or add your logo to the QR image itself for print recognition.
This page uses the same vCard encoding but adds an Address field and includes iPhone-specific guidance on how the contact saves, how to position the code, and compatibility tips.
The QR code is static — changes to your phone or email require creating a new code. Consider linking to a digital business card service if your details change frequently.
